1. Do you design creative, engaging learning activities for Year 9
and 10 students?

Want to play a critical role in luring more students into science?

How about doing what you do best this summer for a project at the
University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia ...

And earn a thousand dollars plus*? (* Australian dollars, of course)

2. We need lesson plans, worksheets, games, etc. to build use by high
school teachers of the World-Wide Day in Science online career guide
(WWDS) -- www.dayinscience.unsw.edu.au.

WWDS captures a day in the life of science each April through the
eyes of university students and science-based professionals.

In the past six years, the site has collected Day in Science stories
of 1000 professionals.

3. Our target audience is those students who would study science in
Years 11 and 12 and university if they saw an enticing career to follow.

So, we are not aiming at the science lovers or the science phobes but
in between.

WWDS takes a "community of practice" approach, showing students how
people like them belong to the scientific community in a range of roles.

Again, the teaching materials would not be about scientific content
but about people, their paths through life, their interests, and
connections between people.

5. Interested?

Send us an example of what you have done -- learning materials for
Year 9 and 10 students (or as close as you can get).

Provide EVIDENCE of their impact. TSSTLI* is not enough (* "The
students seemed to like it.").

List three types of activities or worksheets that you think might
work and explain why you think that they would work. No need to "give
away the farm"; just state enough so that I know what direction you
are headed.

Include your contact details and availability for December (we have
to spend some funds this year).

Send this information to -- wwds at unsw.edu.au. I will look forward to
hearing from you by 28 November.
