Each year, the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), in
Brazil, offers its *Summer School Program* aimed at undergraduate students
from the Exact and Biological Sciences and Engineering,*who have fulfilled
at least 4 periods of their courses*, and wish to dedicate themselves to
scientific research and technology. The Summer School Program is extensive
to universities from other Latin-American countries, the Caribbean,
Australia and South Africa. The students selected - an average of 15 - will
spend the months of January and February at the LNLS, in Campinas, State of
S=E3o Paulo, Brazil, developing a research project in one of the following
areas:

   - Application of Synchrotron Light
   - Molecular and Structural Biology
   - Materials Science (with emphasis on nanoscience and nanotechnology)
   - Physics and Engineering of Accelerator
   - Scientific Instrumentation

The project themes will be proposed by the supervisors of the LNLS research
team. During the Program, the students must dedicate themselves full time to
their project. Their obligations include the presentation of seminars and
the writing of monography (at the end of the Program).

Entries for the 18th Summer School Program [to be held in January and
February 2009] may be made from September 17 to November 03, 2008, according
to the instructions below.

*Who can participate?
*Students of undergraduate courses in the areas of Exact, Biological and
Engineering Sciences, fully enrolled in university institutions located in
Brazil, Latin America, Caribbean, Australia and South Africa can register.

When submitting a request for registration in the 18th Summer School
Program, *the candidate must have concluded at least 4 (four) semesters of
the course (or the equivalent).* Registrations from students matriculated in

school records on the disciplines already completed, and must demonstrate
interest in scientific research or technological development.

The candidates are selected by a committee of LNLS researchers who mainly

by professors and supervisors in letters of recommendation.

There are no specific quotas for countries, institutions or areas of the
candidate's interest.

3 - In the field "Justification" write why you consider yourself a good
candidate to participate in the 18=BA Summer School Program.

4 - Ask two of your teachears to provide letter of recommendation for you.
The letters should be sent to LNLS by November 03, 2008 to bv at lnls.br,
