The call for papers is attached, and details are found at http://www.ioste14.org/ For those who are not familiar with IOSTE, here something about the background and the mission statement: *IOSTE *(International Organization for Science and Technology Education) is an international organization which aims to encourage informed debate, reflection and research on science and technology (S&T) education. IOSTE was established in 1979 to promote contact and dialogue across political and ideological borders. A key concern was that education in S&T should be a vital part of the general education of the peoples of all countries. IOSTE wants to continue and strengthen its tradition and considers that S&T education should: * Highlight S&T education for citizenship and for informed, critical, and active participation in democracy * Stress the relationship between science, technology and society Emphasize the cultural and human values of S&T * Promote equity in S&T and S&T education * Advance S&T education for a just and sustainable development and consider how S&T education can contribute to the fight against poverty, discrimination and injustice * Encourage the peaceful and ethical use of S&T in the service of humankind * Encourage cultural diversity and international understanding through S&T education * Stimulate international collaboration in the domains of research and development and promote cooperation with other international organizations. IOSTE convenes international symposia that opens for inputs that promotes these commitments and that open for critical reflection and debate. You are welcome to attend, and to contribute, to the coming IOSTE in Slovenia! It represents a collective overview on emerging trends and cross-cutting issues in Science in Society, making it a potentially valuable tool for researchers and for decision-makers, who strive for excellence and relevance. It is forward-looking into a number of challenging futures and develops the hypothesis of a European Model of Science in Society which needs further discussion. European research policy will continue to stimulate reflections and debate on the ways science and technology supports developments in our societies, as well as on how the latter integrate and make sense of research. European diversity is therefore an invaluable asset, from which we can all benefit. http://ec.europa.eu/research/science-society/document_library/pdf_06/the-masis-report_en.pdf Vladimir de Semir Member of the MASIS expert group - European Commission From mantabi at health.sdu.dk Wed Nov 25 09:31:09 2009 From: mantabi at health.sdu.dk (Mimo Antabi) Date: Thu Nov 26 23:56:26 2009 Subject: [PCST] New blog on art and science Message-ID: <78BC82917505DE42969C06BEB4C371610ACEC78D@ADM-EXCH0B.adm.c.sdu.dk> Dear PCST colleagues The Centre for Art and Science at the University of Southern Denmark launches an online Art & Science-blog, where professionals of the worlds of art and science (including science communication) as well as others with a general interest in the field can share knowledge and engage in fruitful discussions and debates.
