 The deadline for submitting abstracts for the 4th annual meeting of The Society for the Study of Nanoscience and Emerging Technologies (S.NET), to be held at the University of Twente, the Netherlands, on October 22-25, 2012 has been extended till April 15, 2012. The four-day conference will assemble scholars, practitioners and policy makers from around the world interested in the development and implications of emerging technologies. Contributions from philosophy of technology, STS and innovation studies are more than welcome!



Plenary speakers include:

Chris Groves (School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University, Cesagen Research Fellow),

Antje Grobe (Interdisciplinary Research Unit on Risk Governance and Sustainable Technology Development (ZIRN), University of Stuttgart and Risk Dialogue Foundation, Switzerland) and

Dave Blank (Mesa+ Institute for Nanotechnology, University of Twente )

(all confirmed)

In addition, invited speakers include:

Jim Thomas (ETC Group),

Arnd Hoeveler (European Commission, Directorate Research and Innovation)

Wiebe Bijker (Technology &Society Studies, University of Maastricht)



A specific strand is of relevance to science communication:



"Publics and their relations to newly emerging sciences and technologies"

E.g. Science communication, risk communication, public engagement, participation and discourses on newly emerging sciences and technologies, science museums, informal science learning initiatives, including critical evaluation of such initiatives and the notion of 'publics'.
